This is a good song for musical picnics with friends.

Here's a real sea shanty cleaned up for everyday use. Mikaela loves the whales - and whale song - and whale themed songs.

Kangaroo On

This one is a changing time favorite. No matter how happy or unhappy Mikaela is at the beginning of a diaper change, she always smiles when she hears this one. It refers to the kangaroo on each of her diapers. It's often followed by the Kookaburra song.

This is a followup to the first Captain Kaela song.

This one is an all time favorite. We love the excuse to make all different kinds of noises. It's since inspired several other song alterations. Other versions refer to Captain Kaela Greenstar, Mikaela's alter-ego.

Jack and Jill

I didn't come up with this one. I think I first come across this verse almost twenty years ago here. It may have morphed a bit in my mind, but the central conceit is memorable.

Up the hill rolled Jack and Jill.
Jack's broken crown was mended.
They poured their water down a well
and backwards redescended.


Pirate's Life For Me

I imagine we'll have lots of nautical themed songs, of which this will be the first, the simplest, and the least authentic. There are many versions.

This was one of my favorite songs to sing to Mikaela even before she was born. My mom used to sing a similar song to Jessica quite often.
